About Us

Rural Accounting was founded by Valerie who identified a need for small business owners and has over 20 years experience in the business . Valerie has a particular obsession with Tax (helping clients to minimise & plan for tax, not paying it!) and is continually studying to stay ahead of changes.

Valerie has local knowledge and is passionate about supporting small business owners and start up enterprises with particular experience in the rural sector.

Outside of work, Valerie is kept busy by husband James,  3 children and a crazy ginger spaniel.  When not working, many hours are spent cycling & walking at home on the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, or travelling further afield in the family's much loved  motorhome, 'Bessie'

Katherine is a management accountant and has many years experience working closely with clients on what the figures really mean having run her own practice for 20 years.

She provides hugely valuable bookkeeping, VAT and accounts services for Rural Accounting and is very detail orientated.

She is constantly looking to see how a business can improve their processes or cashflow and maximise profit.

Outside of work, Katherine enjoys swimming, chair yoga and regular visits to the spa.

Valerie's eldest daughter Olivia provides the admin and marketing support needed to keep everything running smoothly.   

When not working at the office, Olivia attends university where she is training as a primary school teacher and enjoys spending her free time at ballet classes or reading (often the same book many times!)

She claims to really enjoy working with her mum despite that fact that she talks to herself all the time!

Rusty is the mad ginger spaniel who has unwittingly become the part time office dog.

He can often be found nestled underneath a desk, manning the door or lurking in a cupboard.

He's predominantly deaf so possibly won't even notice your arrival but if he does, he will most definitely enjoy fuss and attention.
